Google renovates it’s google maps developer platform with a new name: The Google Maps Platform, and it’s a major update to Google Maps API for developers.
It is one of the biggest changes in googles Platform in recent years. These changes help to simplify the Google Maps developer offering. It will also simplify how Google charges to access those APIs. All Google Maps developers will have to have a valid API key with a Google Platform billing account to use The Google Maps Platform.
Google is combining 18 individual Maps APIs the company currently offers and introduce three products, they are Routes, Maps, and places. This is the 1st step for this new renovation.
There is another good news for the developer and that is the company promises to the developer that they can continue with their existing code to work without any changes.
As I already mentioned, Google simplifies how the company will charge for access to the APIs. This feature is also the part of this update. Now Google offers a single pricing plan with access to free support. At present, the company offers both standard and premium plan, where premium plan included access to support. But this offers is just for now it’s going to change in future and the company will only offer a single one which offers provides developers with $200 worth of free monthly usage. There is also different pricing pan for enterprise customers.
At the launching program of The Google Maps API, Google also announced that the company has plans to launch several Maps-Centric industry-specific solutions.
Some time ago, Google launched a program for those developers who want to make a real-world game based on Maps data and at the present time they announced a similar solution for asset tracking and ridesharing. Lyft (ridesharing app) is already started to build an app using ridesharing product last year.
The Maps team writes in yesterdays announcement that they were expecting that they will bring new solutions to the market in those areas where they were positioned to offer insights and expertise.
They believe that their asset tracking offering will help businesses to improve their efficiencies by locating vehicles and asset in real time with visual where their assets have been traveled.
Occasionally, when Google changed its free usage levels, Google Maps API access has some divisive issue. This update won’t create that kind of issue. These changes simplify the life of developers and this decision of the Google Maps Team seems to be moving in the right direction.
